Embry-Riddle continued its good start to the early-season with 98-91 win over Northern New Mexico on Tuesday evening at the Activity Center. The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and clutch performances down the stretch.
Embry-Riddle came out firing in the first half, shooting a blistering 60% from the field and 72.7% from beyond the arc to build a 47-32 halftime lead. Sophomore forward Peter Dress led the charge early, scoring 15 of his 25 points in the opening frame, while Noah Gifft and Matur Dhal added key buckets to keep the Eagles ahead.
Despite the comfortable halftime cushion, Northern New Mexico mounted a fierce comeback in the second half, outscoring Embry-Riddle 59-51. The Eagles weathered the storm thanks to a career night from Diego Sharp, who poured in a game-high 29 points, including five three-pointers and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Sharp's second-half explosion helped Embry-Riddle maintain their lead even as the hosts closed the gap.
Gifft and Dhal were instrumental in the paint, combining for 29 points and 16 rebounds, while Isaiah Wong orchestrated the offense with six assists and added 11 points. Jacey Canalin was a steady presence at point guard, dishing out eight assists and contributing four points.
The Eagles' bench also played a pivotal role, contributing 23 points, with Christian Wells and Ethan Macken providing valuable minutes and scoring spurts. Embry-Riddle dominated inside, scoring 54 points in the paint and grabbing 34 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards that led to 14 second-chance points.
Embry-RIddle will play again on Thursday as the Eagles host West Coast Baptist with tip-off scheduled for 6pm in the Activity Center.
