Embry-Riddle continued its road trip on Friday evening, falling 80-63 to Corban University at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Despite the final score, the Eagles showed resilience and flashes of promise, particularly in a strong fourth-quarter surge.
ERAU found themselves in an early hole, trailing 24-14 after the first quarter and 40-25 at halftime. Corban (1-0), playing its season opener, capitalized on early shooting success, hitting 52.6% from the field in the first quarter and building a lead the Eagles would spend the rest of the game trying to overcome.
The Eagles struggled to find their rhythm offensively through the first three quarters, shooting just 36.7% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc for the game. However, the fourth quarter showcased the team's potential, as they poured in 26 points—more than any other quarter—and shot 42.1% from the field, including 3-of-8 from three-point range.
Abby Dean led the Eagles with 14 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final period. Nicole Evenson provided a spark off the bench, knocking down three triples in the fourth quarter to finish with nine points in just 11 minutes of action.
Riley Morris-Rexford anchored the paint with a team-high nine rebounds and added seven points, while Bella Barrett and Jordyn Smith each chipped in eight points. The Eagles also got a boost from Angelina Whelan, who contributed six points and six rebounds in 21 minutes.
Defensively, Embry-Riddle forced 13 turnovers and recorded 11 steals, with Dean and Barrett each collecting three. The Eagles also tallied 16 points off turnovers and 12 second-chance points, demonstrating their tenacity on both ends of the floor.
Corban was led by Jersey Huerta and Emilia Bishop, who each scored 16 points. The Warriors shot an impressive 46.9% from the field and 91.7% from the free-throw line.
The Eagles will look to bounce back as they continue their Pacific Northwest road trip with a game against Eastern Oregon on Saturday evening.
