Eagles Lose Close Game to Utah Valley

Embry-Riddle battled Utah Valley University at UCCU Ballpark in Orem, Utah on Saturday and the Eagles lost a close 6-4 game to the Wolverines.  

Game Highlights:

  • Pitching Performance: Starting pitcher Eric Schumann took the mound for Embry-Riddle, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing 6 runs on 8 hits. Schumann struck out one batter but struggled to contain the Utah Valley offense, which capitalized on key opportunities to score.

  • Offensive Contributions: The Eagles' offense was led by Roberto Garza-Nunez and Connor Rosinski. Garza-Nunez hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, while Rosinski drove in three runs with a double in the fourth inning and a single in the sixth. Owen Cain also contributed with a single and two runs scored.

  • Defensive Efforts: The Eagles' defense was solid, committing no errors and making several key plays to keep the game within reach. Catcher, Cain was particularly effective, recording four putouts and assisting in three stolen base attempts.

Key Moments:

  • Fourth Inning Rally: Embry-Riddle's offense came alive in the fourth inning. After Garza-Nunez walked and Cain singled, Rosinski delivered a clutch double to left field, driving in both runners and cutting Utah Valley's lead to 3-2.

  • Sixth Inning Surge: The Eagles continued to fight back in the sixth inning. Garza-Nunez's solo home run to left center field brought the score to 6-3. Later in the inning, Rosinski's single to right field drove in Cain, making it a 6-4 game.

  • Pitching Change: Zack Bauer and Jonah Montes provided strong relief pitching for the Eagles. Bauer pitched 2.1 innings without allowing a hit, striking out three batters. Montes closed out
    the game with a scoreless eighth inning, giving the Eagles a chance to mount a comeback.

    ERAU and UVU will meet again on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2:05pm Arizona time at UCCU Ballpark.
