Embry-Riddle got back into the win column with a big 16-6 win in 7 innings over Briar Cliff University at Eagle Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The game started with Briar Cliff taking an early lead in the top of the first inning. R. Bryant doubled to center field and later scored on a fielder's choice by N. Sall. However, Embry-Riddle quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Konner Nelson walked, and Miles Murphy launched a two-run homer to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Roberto Garza-Nunez's double brought home James Warren, extending the lead to 3-1.
Embry-Riddle continued to apply pressure in the second inning. Caden Truman singled, stole second, and scored on Murphy's triple to right field, making it 4-1. The Eagles added two more runs in the third inning, with Garza-Nunez and Connor Rosinski driving in runs to push the lead to 6-1.
Briar Cliff managed to score a run in the fifth inning, but the Eagles' offense exploded in the sixth. C. Marquardt hit a solo home run, and C. Patterson's two-run single highlighted a four-run inning, extending the lead to 10-2. The Chargers attempted a comeback with four runs in the top of the sixth, but Embry-Riddle's bats remained relentless.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles added five more runs. Rosinski's two-run double and Fernando Perez-Ortega's RBI single were the key hits in the inning. The Eagles' final run came in the seventh inning, sealing the 16-6 victory.
Murphy had a standout performance, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple, and three RBIs. Garza-Nunez was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Rosinski also contributed significantly, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
On the mound, the Eagles used a combination of pitchers to keep Briar Cliff at bay. Eric Schumann started the game, followed by strong relief appearances from Jacob Samsing, Braden Wilson, and others. The pitching staff combined to strike out seven batters and limit the Chargers to eight hits.
