Embry-Riddle dropped the first game of the doubleheader to OUAZ on Saturday afternoon 5-2 before a
Lily Anderson walk-off sacrifice fly helped the Eagles win game two 8-7 at Eagle Softball Field.
Game 1
The Eagles took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning. After Kealey Myhre walked and Katie Jamieson followed with another walk, Kayli Clark singled to center field, driving in Myhre. Anderson then singled to shortstop, bringing Jamieson home and giving Embry-Riddle a 2-0 lead.
OUAZ responded in the fourth inning, capitalizing on Embry-Riddle's defensive errors. After the top of the 4th inning the Spirit led 4-2.
The Spirit extended their lead in the fifth inningas they added one more run.
Embry-Riddle struggled to regain their momentum, with multiple strikeouts and defensive errors in the later innings. Despite a strong performance by Anderson, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI, the Eagles were unable to close the gap.
Embry-Riddle's starting pitcher, Vanessa Brink, pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (one earned) on nine hits, with four strikeouts.
Game 2
The Spirit took an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning and adding two more in the second. Embry-Riddle responded in the bottom of the first with a run of their own. Anderson was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Myhre, tying the game at 1-1.
OUAZ extended their lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs as they led 6-1.
Embry-Riddle began their comeback in the fifth inning. Clark walked and advanced to second on a groundout by Anderson. Leah Salas singled to left field, driving in Clark and narrowing the gap to 6-2.
The Eagles' offense exploded in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to take the lead. With two outs, Alexus Marquez hit a single, followed by singles from Clark, Anderson, and Salas. Autumn Sulusi then doubled to left field, driving in three runs. Jade Bayless singled to left field, bringing Sulusi's pinch runner Jewel Wilfong home and tying the game at 7-7.
After OUAZ stranded a runner in the top of the 7th inning, Maddy Tuning walked and advanced to third on singles by Arianna Garcia and Clark. Anderson then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, driving in Tuning and securing the Eagles' victory.
Embry-Riddle's pitcher, Claire Streeter, pitched a complete game, allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, with seven strikeouts.
ERAU and OUAZ will play again on Monday to finish the four game conference series with the first game starting at 2pm at Eagle Softball Field.
