Game Recap: Softball |

Eagles Lose Game One, Win Big in Game Two of Doubleheader

After Embry-Riddle lost 9-8 in 9 innings in the first game of the doubleheader with OUAZ, the Eagles took the second game of the day by run rule, 11-3 in just five innings on Monday evening at Eagle Softball Field.

Game 1
ERAU jumped out to a lead in the 2nd inning after Maddy Tuning came around to score.  Tuning was walked and scored on a single by Lily Anderson.  The Spirit tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the 3rd, but the Eagles answered right away in the bottom half of the inning.  Jade Bayless and Kealey Myhre each hit singles and both moved up a base on a wild pitch.  Katie Jamieson then singled to bring home Bayless and give ERAU the 2-1 lead.  Kayli Clark was issued a bases loaded walk to bring home Myhre and after three the Eagles led 3-1.

The Spirit scored three runs in the 4th inning and took a 4-3 lead to the bottom of the 6th.

Clark led off the bottom of the 6th inning with a walk and then stole second.  Another single by Anderson put runners on first and third for Leah Salas.  A single by Salas scored both runners and Embry-Riddle led 5-4.  OUAZ was able to tie it up in the top half of the 7th inning.  After the Eagles couldn't score, the game headed to extra innings.

In the top of the 8th, OUAZ was able to plate three runs taking an 8-5 lead.  But once again the Eagles answered back with three runs of their own.  The Spirit were able to add one more run in the 9th and held on for the 9-8 win.

Game 2
OUAZ jumped out to a 2-0 lead right away in the first inning of the second game.  After Claire Streeter sat the Spirit down in order in the top of the 2nd inning, Embry-Riddle got their offense going.  Myhre was walked and then a triple by Jamieson brought the score to 2-1.  Jamieson then tied up the score on a sacrifice fly by Arianna Garcia.  A  double by Anderson brought home Clark again and after two innings the Eagles led 3-2.

In the top of the third inning OUAZ tied it up at 3-3, but just like before ERAU had an answer.  Bayless crossed the plate on a sac fly by Jamieson and the Eagles led once again.

Embry-Riddle put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits.  The big hit of the inning was a two run homerun by Autumn Sulusi.  ERAU led 8-3 into the 5th inning.

In the 5th, Garcia led off with a double followed by a single from Clark.  After Anderson walked, the bases were loaded for Salas.  Salas came through with a single to center field that brought home two runs and gave ERAU the run rule win 11-3.

Embry-Riddle will head to Arizona Christian this weekend to play ACU in a four game GSAC series with the first game on Friday at 4:30pm.
