After winning the first dual of the day 21-20, Embry-Riddle dropped the next two to Grand View and University of Providence at the NWCA National Duals hosted at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Match 1 vs. Doane University
At 125lbs,
Landon Smith lost a close 2-0 match and at 133lbs,
Jaren Kimura dropped his match 10-0.Â
Yoshiya Funakoshi won 13-2 to earn four team points for the Eagles at 141lbs. ERAU dropped the next two matches as
Christian Lopez and
Peyton Proper both lost before the Eagles won four out of the next five to take the dual. At 165lbs,
Jayden Luttrell won by fall in just 1:54.Â
Daniil Gorshkov won by tech fall 15-0 at 174lbs.Â
Wyatt Rewerts dropped his match at 184lbs but then
Trenton Blomquist and
Kenneth Copley both earned wins as the Eagles beat the Tigers 21-20 to start the day.
Match 2 vs. Grand ViewÂ
ERAU faced the #1 team in the country in their second matchup. Smith lost a close 8-5 match at 125lbs. At 133lbs, Kimura lost by tech fall and right after him,
Adam Stanley also lost by tech fall at 141lbs. At 149lbs, Lopez lost by fall.Â
Jacob Briggs wrestled for the Eagles at 157lbs and lost by tech fall. Proper moved up to 165lbs and lost 11-3 followed by Gorskov dropping his match at 174lbs by a score of 7-1. Rewerts lost at 184lbs by fall and Blomquist lost a very close 2-0 match at 197lbs. Copley picked up three points for ERAU as he won his match at 285lbs by a score of 4-1. Grandview won the dual by a final score of 40-3. Â
Match 3 vs. Providence
Smith got things started with a 4-1 sudden victory for the Eagles at 125lbs. At 133lbs, Kimura lost his match but then Funakoshi won at 141lbs by a score of 10-1. At 149lbs,
Axel Esparza lost a close 14-13 decision. Briggs dropped his match at 157lbs for ERAU. At 165lbs, Luttrell lost by sudden victory 11-8.Â
Tauataina Tuikolongahau fell at 184lbs as well. Blomquist picked up a major decision win at 197lbs for the Eagles to bring the team back within five team points. At 285lbs, Copley lost in the third overtime by a score of 3-2. Â
ERAU will head to Oregon in two weeks for duals against Southern Oregon University and Corban University on the 24th and 25th. Â
