ERAU Drops Final Two of East/West Invite

Embry-Riddle fell to Ottawa of Kansas 16-6 in their first game on Saturday at ACU Baseball Field and dropped the second game 12-3 to University of British Columbia.

Game 1
Embry-Riddle battled back with a furious seventh-inning rally, but an explosive late-game push from Ottawa University proved too much as the Eagles fell 16–6 at ACU Baseball Field on Saturday afternoon.

Ottawa struck first, capitalizing on speed as Ja. Ryan swiped two bases and scored on a groundout to give the Braves a 1–0 lead in the opening frame. Embry-Riddle punched back in the second, loading the bases and tying the game when Konner Nelson drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Fernando Perez-Ortega.

The momentum swung sharply in the third inning, where Ottawa plated four runs on a combination of timely hitting and free passes. The Eagles continued to fight, with Connor Rosinski driving in a run in the bottom half to make it 5–2. Rosinski later added a stolen base—one of six steals for ERAU on the day—as the Eagles worked to create offense against a deep Ottawa pitching staff.

Ottawa added single runs in the sixth and seventh, pushing its lead to 6–2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. That's when the Embry-Riddle offense erupted.

ERAU strung together four runs in the inning—its biggest offensive surge of the game. Pinch-hitter Jake Lokos singled to ignite the rally, followed by a hit-by-pitch to Nelson and a walk by Murphy to load the bases. James Warren punched an RBI single to left center, and Javier Izaguirre added a sacrifice fly to bring home another. Moments later, Perez-Ort delivered the biggest swing of the Eagles' afternoon, ripping a two-run triple to right center to tie the game 6–6 and send the home dugout into a roar.

But Ottawa responded immediately in the eighth—scoring five runs—and added another five in the ninth to pull away for good. Ottawa's D. Sneed delivered the knockout blow with a three-run triple in the top of the ninth, part of a five-RBI performance for the visiting left fielder.

Game 2
The Eagles (5–3) generated offensive sparks throughout the afternoon—including a third-inning rally and a solo home run from Miles Murphy—but a pair of multi-run UBC innings proved too much to overcome.

Embry-Riddle threatened early in the first when Warren singled and Izaguirre drew a walk, but a strikeout ended the opening-inning opportunity. The Eagles kept the pressure on in the second, with Lokos singling and advancing to third on a passed ball before UBC worked out of the jam.

ERAU finally broke through in the third. Nelson led off with a walk, followed by a perfectly placed bunt single from Murphy. Warren then delivered his second hit of the day—an RBI single to right—bringing Nelson home and giving the Eagles a 1–0 lead.

UBC was kept quiet through the first four frames thanks to a strong start from Keegan Eberly, who allowed just one hit and no runs through four innings. But the Thunderbirds broke through in the fifth, scoring five runs on a combination of a leadoff hit-by-pitch, a double, and several run-producing swings, including RBI singles from K. Yip and D. Krahn. A two-RBI pinch-hit single by O. Clements capped the inning and swung the momentum in UBC's favor.

Murphy answered immediately in the bottom half, crushing a solo home run to left field—his second hit of the afternoon—to bring the score to 5–2. Izaguirre was hit by a pitch and Perez-Ortega walked, but UBC reliever L. Happell entered and closed the door to preserve the lead.

Embry-Riddle will play again in Phoenix on Friday with the game beginning at 2pm.
