Embry-Riddle put together multiple late offensive surges, including a five-run eighth inning, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in an 18–11 loss to British Columbia on Friday afternoon at Cortez High School.
The Eagles matched UBC with a three-run first inning highlighted by a towering three-run home run from James Warren, his second of the season. Konner Nelson reached after being hit by a pitch and promptly stole second before Miles Murphy singled to set up Warren's game-tying blast.
British Columbia countered with steady scoring across the next several innings, capitalizing on extra-base hits and Embry-Riddle defensive miscues. UBC built a 5–3 lead in the third and pushed across six runs in the fourth to take control.
Still, the Eagles continued to compete at the plate. Murphy and Warren each posted multi-hit games, with Warren driving in six of ERAU's 11 runs. Freshman third baseman Jake Lokos turned in a standout performance with four hits, including a double, a stolen base, and multiple runs scored.
After falling behind 17–4 in the seventh, the Eagles erupted for five runs in the eighth, taking advantage of two hit-by-pitches, a pair of singles from Lokos and Murphy, and a two-RBI error forced off the bat of Warren. The surge cut the deficit to 17–9 and reignited the ERAU dugout.
Embry-Riddle continued to claw back in the ninth. Aleksander Krupa worked a walk before Lokos doubled to the wall in left to put runners on second and third. Caden Truman drove in a run on an infield error, and Kaden Menard—pinch-hitting—added an RBI groundout to bring home Lokos, trimming the deficit to 18–11 before the final out.
Despite the loss, the Eagles finished with 10 hits, showcased aggressive baserunning with three stolen bases, and showed resilience throughout the final three innings.
Embry-Riddle will continue play on Saturday with a double header. The first game is at 11AM against the University of British Columbia.
