Embry-Riddle moved to 7-6 on the season with a 6-4 win over Nelson University in game one of the doubleheader and the Eagles took the second game of the day 8-5 at Cortez High School on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1
After a scoreless first, the Eagles exploded for four runs in the top of the second, taking full control of the game. Javier Izaguirre started the rally with a leadoff single, and pinch-runner Owen Montgomery immediately wreaked havoc on the bases—stealing both second and third.Â
A sacrifice fly by Miles Murphy brought Montgomery home for the first run of the game. Moments later, Caden Truman singled and advanced on an outfield error, setting the stage for the biggest swing of the afternoon: center fielder Kaden Menard launched a three-run home run to left field, scoring Truman and Freddy Perez-Ortega to make it 4–0 ERAU.
ERAU starter Jesse Kaphing worked efficiently through four shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five to keep Nelson University off balance.
Nelson scored once in the fifth and then mounted a push in the seventh. After a pair of baserunners reached, Elliot Gustafson hit a three-run homer to center, cutting the Eagles' lead to 6–4 and bringing the tying run to the plate.Â
Embry-Riddle's bullpen, however, slammed the door in the final frames. Keegan Eberly stopped the momentum in the seventh, and closer Noah Tschopp delivered a dominant two-inning save—striking out three and allowing just one hit to secure his second save of the season.
Game 2
ERAU wasted no time getting on the board.
Konner Nelson opened the game with a single and immediately stole second, later scoring on a sacrifice fly by
Javier Izaguirre to put the Eagles ahead 1–0.
Though Nelson University answered with a two-run homer in the bottom half, the Eagles continued to apply pressure.
Nelson led off the third inning with a double, and Izaguirre delivered again—this time ripping an RBI double to right-center, bringing home the tying run and evening the game at 2–2.
 After a leadoff walk,
Aleksander Krupa opened the floodgates with a two-run homer to right-center, scoring pinch-runner
Kaden Menard and giving ERAU a 4–2 lead.
The Eagles kept rolling:
- Ty Cramer doubled to right-center
- Caden Truman laid down a perfect sac bunt
- Murphy delivered an RBI double down the left-field line
- Jake Lokos singled home another run
- A wild pitch moved Lokos into scoring position
- Izaguirre capped the inning with his second blast of the day—a two-run homer to center
By the time the dust settled, ERAU had put up six runs on five hits, taking a commanding 8–2 lead with zero runners left on base.
Starter
Spencer Lanz earned the win, striking out 9 batters over four innings of work while allowing only two earned runs.
The Eagles used three relievers—
Braden Wilson,
Brody Gundert, and
Spencer Rego—to close out the final three innings, combining for four more strikeouts.
Embry-Riddle will head to West Palm Beach next to play Keiser University in a four game series.
