Game Recap: Baseball |

Eagles Drop Two to Keiser

Embry-Riddle fell in the first game of the doubleheader to Keiser 11-1 and dropped the second game of the day 4-3 in West Palm Beach on Friday.

Game 1
Early Five-Run Frame Creates Uphill Battle

Keiser jumped ahead quickly, scoring five runs in the first inning, aided by four hit-by-pitches, an error, and a two-run single from catcher. Embry-Riddle starter Keegan Eberly was tagged with the loss after recording just two outs.

Reliever Brody Gundert entered to stop the rally, but the Seahawks continued to apply pressure throughout the afternoon.

Eagles Get on the Board in the Third

Embry-Riddle manufactured its lone run in the top of the third. Caden Truman singled to center and moved to third on Konner Nelson's double down the left side. Miles Murphy then drove Truman in with a groundout to short, trimming the deficit to 5–1.

The Eagles threatened again moments later after James Warren singled, but a double play ended the inning.

Keiser Pulls Away Late

Keiser added two runs in the fourth—including a sacrifice fly from T. Brooks—and broke the game open with four more in the sixth. A two-RBI single from third baseman J. Garcia extended the lead to 11–1.

Game 2
The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board. In the top of the first, Miles Murphy launched a solo home run to left, giving Embry-Riddle an early 1–0 advantage.
A two-out walk from Fernando Perez-Ortega and an infield error put runners on the corners, but the lead remained at one.

Keiser capitalized on a series of baserunners in the bottom of the second, posting three runs on three hits, including an RBI double from M. Shaver and an RBI single by J. Garcia.
Still, Lanz limited further damage, stranding Shaver at second and keeping the game within reach.

Lanz delivered one of his strongest outings of the season:

  • 6.0 IP
  • 4 hits
  • 3 earned runs
  • 6 strikeouts
  • 79 pitches

Reliever Sam Pritchard followed with two scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and striking out two.

Embry-Riddle fought back in the sixth, taking advantage of a pair of Keiser defensive miscues. After James Warren reached on an error and Owen Montgomery reached on another, Montgomer advanced on a groundout and eventually came home on Caden Truman's RBI single to center, tying the game at 3–3.

Montgomery also doubled earlier in the game and finished with two key contributions at the plate.

After the Eagles couldn't cash in Menard's leadoff single in the top of the ninth, Keiser loaded the bases in the bottom half. A fielder's choice allowed the winning run—pinch-runner E. Collado—to cross the plate, giving Keiser a 4–3 walk-off win.

The two teams will play the series finale on Saturday with the first pitch at 9am AZ time.
