Embry-Riddle battled through a long night on the road Thursday but came up short in a 7–1 loss to Arizona Christian at ACU Baseball Field. The Eagles were held scoreless until the eighth inning and finished with four hits in the contest.
Starter Spencer Lanz turned in a competitive outing, striking out eight over 4.1 innings while allowing just two earned runs. His early command kept the Eagles within striking distance, including a scoreless first inning in which he worked around a leadoff single and a wild pitch.
Relievers Jacob Samsing, Brody Gundert, Braden Wilson, and Lukas Barrett combined to cover the remaining frames, with Wilson striking out one and Barrett inducing multiple ground-ball outs in the eighth. Despite the staff's 11 total strikeouts, defensive miscues and timely ACU hitting allowed the Firestorm to steadily extend their lead.
Catcher Javier Izaguirre paced the Eagles offensively, going 2-for-4 with singles in the sixth and eighth innings. His eighth-inning infield hit helped set up Embry-Riddle's lone run.
Center fielder Konner Nelson reached base twice—walking in the first and being hit by a pitch in the eighth. After advancing on a wild pitch and a groundout, Nelson came around to score on Fernando Perez-Ortega's RBI groundout, putting the Eagles on the board.
Designated hitter James Warren added a single and a walk, reaching base twice.
Embry-Riddle will look to rebound as they continue their road stretch with two more at ACU on Friday.
