Embry-Riddle put up a pair of gritty, high-offense performances on Friday at Eagle Baseball Field, trading blows with OUAZ in a doubleheader that featured a combined 43 runs and 55 hits across the two games. Despite late-inning pushes in both contests, the Eagles fell 16–13 in Game 1 and 8–6 in Game 2.
GAME 1: OUAZ 16, Embry-Riddle 13
Eagles erase a seven-run deficit, then nearly pull off a ninth-inning miracle
Embry-Riddle's opener was a roller coaster—one where the Eagles looked in control early, fell behind big, stormed back, and nearly stole it in the ninth.
The Eagles jumped ahead in the first when Miles Murphy tripled and James Warren drove him in with a double. They added three more in the third, highlighted by Murphy's RBI double and another run-scoring double from Warren. By the end of the inning, ERAU led 4–0.
But OUAZ erupted for seven runs in the fourth, capitalizing on a string of wild pitches, a passed ball, and timely hits. The Eagles immediately answered with a five-run inning of their own, fueled by RBI knocks from Jake Lokos, Konner Nelson, Murphy, Warren, and Connor Rosinski, reclaiming a 9–7 advantage.
From there, the game turned into a slugfest. Warren continued his monster day—finishing 5-for-5 with three doubles, a triple, and five RBI—while Murphy went 3-for-5 with a double and triple, and Lokos added three hits and two RBI.
Trailing 16–13 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Eagles brought the tying run to the plate but couldn't complete the comeback. Still, the late surge showcased the lineup's depth and resilience.
GAME 2: OUAZ 8, Embry-Riddle 6
Murphy homers twice on the day; Eagles rally late but fall short
Game 2 followed a similar script—big innings, big swings, and another tight finish.
OUAZ struck first in the second inning, but ERAU answered immediately with a three-run frame. Carter Graham doubled, Fernando Perez-Ortega was hit by a pitch, and Jake Lokos delivered a two-RBI single to put the Eagles ahead 3–2.
After OUAZ regained the lead, Miles Murphy launched his second home run of the day, a solo shot in the fifth that cut the deficit to 5–4.
ERAU tied it in the sixth when Jake Lokos singled home Ty Cramer, making it 5–5. Lokos finished the doubleheader with six hits and six RBI, one of the best offensive days of his ERAU career.
OUAZ responded with a three-run seventh, but the Eagles refused to go quietly. In the bottom half, Manny Morales ripped a two-RBI single, and Devin Duque added a sacrifice fly to bring ERAU within 8–6.
The two teams will play the final two of the series in Prescott on Saturday with the first game at 12pm. Â
