Embry-Riddle delivered a composed, resilient doubleheader performance on Saturday, claiming the opener 5–4 in Prescott before narrowly dropping an 8–7 thriller in Surprise. Across both games, the Eagles showed timely hitting, defensive grit, and a lineup that refused to back down.
Game One: Embry-Riddle 5, OUAZ 4
The Eagles set the tone immediately, striking for three runs in the top of the first and never surrendering the lead.
Fast Start Fuels the Win
ERAU loaded the bases with no outs, and Joy Sanchez lifted a sacrifice fly to score the game's first run. Moments later, Jade Bayless ripped a two-run double to left, pushing the lead to 3–0.
OUAZ clawed back with solo homers in the third, but Claire Streeter steadied the game, working out of multiple jams.
Sixth-Inning Insurance
With the lead trimmed to 3–2, ERAU answered in the sixth.
-
Anise Romo, pinch-hitting, delivered a clutch RBI single to center.
-
Ryan Da Costa followed with a run-scoring single of her own.
Those two runs proved decisive.
Streeter Goes the Distance
Streeter battled through seven innings, striking out seven and stranding 11 OUAZ runners. Her poise in the circle preserved the win.
ERAU's defense also turned a key double play and held OUAZ scoreless in four of seven innings.
Game Two: OUAZ 8, Embry-Riddle 7
The nightcap was a back-and-forth battle featuring power, momentum swings, and a dramatic finish that came down to the final outs.
Eagles Rally from 6–1 Deficit
After OUAZ plated three in the second and three more in the third, ERAU mounted a furious comeback.
In the fourth, Ryan Da Costa ignited the rally, blasting a three-run triple to left to pull the Eagles within 6–4.
Bock Puts ERAU Ahead in the Seventh
With the game still tied in the seventh, Jill Bock delivered a solo home run, giving ERAU a 7–6 lead and capping a standout two-homer day across the doubleheader.
OUAZ Walks It Off
The Spirit answered in the bottom half, scoring twice after an error and a run-scoring double. A miscue on a bunt allowed the winning run to cross, ending ERAU's comeback bid.
Despite the loss, the Eagles matched OUAZ with 10 hits and showcased their offensive depth:
-
Da Costa (2-for-4, 3 RBI, triple)
-
Bayless (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI)
-
Bock (2-for-4, HR)
Presley Daniel threw all seven innings for ERAU, battling through OUAZ pressure and keeping the Eagles within striking distance.
