Embry-Riddle softball put together a strong day at the plate and in the circle on Friday, taking the opener 8–1 behind a dominant complete game from Claire Streeter before a wild, back-and-forth second game saw the Eagles fall 12–9 despite a four-run first inning and a late push in the seventh.
GAME 1 — Embry-Riddle 8, Park-Gilbert 1
The Eagles set the tone early and never let go, riding a complete-game gem from Claire Streeter, who struck out 14 and allowed just five hits in seven innings. The senior was in full command, retiring the side in order three times and punching out the final three hitters of the game.
ERAU's offense backed her with steady production throughout the lineup. The second inning broke things open:
-
Kealey Myhre walked and later scored the game's first run.
-
Katie Jamieson delivered a two-RBI single to right, part of a three-run frame.
In the fourth, Arianna Garcia launched a solo homer to left-center to extend the lead.
ERAU added two more in the fifth on Jade Bayless's two-run blast to center—her first of two homers on the day across the doubleheader.
Bayless struck again in the seventh, crushing her second homer of the game to put things out of reach. ERAU finished with 12 hits, including multi-hit efforts from Jamieson, Salas, Bock, and Bayless.
Streeter closed the door emphatically, striking out the side in the seventh to secure the 8–1 win.
The second game turned into an offensive shootout, with ERAU jumping ahead early before Park-Gilbert's massive sixth inning swung the momentum.
GAME 2 — Park-Gilbert 12, Embry-Riddle 9
Eagles explode for four in the first
ERAU opened the game with six straight baserunners:
Briseis Ramirez added an RBI single to cap the four-run frame.
Salas stays hot
Shortstop Leah Salas delivered a three-hit performance, including a two-run homer in the seventh that pulled ERAU back within striking distance.
Back-and-forth middle innings
ERAU added single runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th, highlighted by:
-
An RBI single from Salas in the 4th
-
A sacrifice fly from Anise Romo in the 5th
-
An RBI single from Joy Sanchez in the 6th
The decisive sixth inning
Park-Gilbert erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on two hit batters, an error, and four hits—including a ground-rule double from Anna Chavez and RBI singles from Mady Lackey and Ari Fjeldsted.
ERAU fought back in the seventh with Salas's two-run homer and had the tying run reach base, but a deep flyout ended the rally.
