Embry-Riddle kicked off its 2026 campaign with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against #8 Warner Pacific on Thursday evening in Prescott at Varsity Field.
The Eagles' back line delivered a composed performance under pressure, anchored by goalkeeper Sam Macdonald, who recorded five saves and controlled his penalty area with confidence. His most critical moments came in the first half, including a diving stop on a header from Luis Gonzalez at 22:43 and a quick reaction save on Jose Robles late in the match.
ERAU's defensive unit—Francesco Busini, Aleksandar Mihajlovic, Dario Ajdini, and Zach Campbell—played all 90 minutes and absorbed Warner Pacific's 17-shot attack. Busini, despite picking up an early yellow card at 8:57, remained steady and disciplined the rest of the way.
Embry-Riddle generated 11 shots, three on target, with midfielders Hugo Gil and Nitai Bental leading the attack. Gil fired three attempts—including a high shot in the opening minutes and a wide effort at 19:58—while Bental forced Warner Pacific's keeper into a save at 22:43.
Substitutes added energy in the second half. Rodrigo Garcia produced one of ERAU's best chances at 76:39, a driven shot saved by Owen Purvis. Rojvan Karaer and Kevin Yamna also contributed pressure, though Warner Pacific's defense consistently closed down shooting lanes.
For Embry-Riddle, the opener showcased a disciplined defensive identity and glimpses of attacking potential. While the Eagles couldn't find the finishing touch, they controlled key stretches, rotated effectively, and leaned on Macdonald's steady goalkeeping to secure the clean sheet.
