AUSTIN, Texas. – Embry-Riddle Arizona volleyball put together a strong all-around performance Friday at Branch Gymnasium, earning a pair of victories with a 3-1 comeback win over UHSP St. Louis before finishing the day with a 3-0 sweep of Mid-America Christian. The Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season with the doubleheader sweep.
Eagles Rally Past UHSP, 3-1
Embry-Riddle opened the day by overcoming a first-set setback to defeat UHSP St. Louis 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15. After dropping a tightly contested opening set, the Eagles found their rhythm offensively and controlled the final three frames to secure the victory.
The Eagles recorded 56 kills while hitting .305 as a team, including a .321 attack percentage in the third set and an impressive .467 clip in the fourth.
Hannah Clear led the attack with 14 kills on a match-best .478 hitting percentage, while Brooke Eglinton added 12 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. Anela Chew and Ronni Lyons each finished with 10 kills, giving Embry-Riddle four players in double figures offensively.
Alice Tuci directed the offense with 48 assists and added four service aces and 10 digs. Sydney Sniffen anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs, while Maya Dominguez contributed three service aces.
After narrowly escaping with a 25-23 second-set win to even the match, the Eagles took control the rest of the way. Embry-Riddle never allowed UHSP more than 16 points in either of the final two sets, using balanced offense and strong defense to close out the four-set victory.
Eagles Complete Sweep of Mid-America Christian
Embry-Riddle carried that momentum into the evening matchup, defeating Mid-America Christian 25-15, 25-21, 26-24 to complete the day with a perfect 2-0 record.
The Eagles held MACU to an .083 hitting percentage and used a dominant effort at the net to record 15 total team blocks.
Brooke Eglinton and Abbylynn Farrell paced the offense with 11 kills each. Farrell hit .250 while adding two blocks, while Eglinton chipped in three block assists and seven digs.
Destiny Matthews made her presence felt defensively, totaling five kills and six blocks, including three solo stuffs. Anela Chew contributed three service aces and 11 digs, while Tuci added 22 assists and 10 digs for her second double-double of the day.
The third set proved to be the most competitive of the match, featuring nine ties and four lead changes. With MACU threatening to extend the match, the Eagles responded late to secure the 26-24 win and complete the sweep.
Doubleheader Leaders
Eglinton was one of the Eagles' top performers throughout the day, totaling 23 kills, 18 digs, and seven blocks across the two victories. Tuci finished with 70 assists, six service aces, and 20 digs, while Sniffen recorded 29 digs in the doubleheader. Chew added 13 kills, five service aces, and 12 digs as Embry-Riddle's balanced lineup helped power the Eagles to two wins in Austin.
Embry-Riddle returns to action Saturday looking to carry its momentum forward after an undefeated day in Texas.
