PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Embry-Riddle
volleyball team shook off a first-set loss and dominated the remainder of the match Friday night, defeating Life Pacific 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15). The victory improved the Eagles to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
After narrowly dropping the opening set, the Eagles settled in and controlled the match from that point forward. Embry-Riddle answered with a convincing 25-14 second-set win, hitting .378 with 18 kills and just four errors to even the contest. The Eagles continued to dictate the pace in the final two frames, holding the Warriors to a combined .026 attack percentage while cruising to back-to-back 25-15 victories.
The Eagles' offense was balanced and efficient throughout the evening, finishing with 59 kills and a .245 hitting percentage compared to just 35 kills and a .065 clip for Life Pacific.
Leading the attack was Abbylynn Farrell, who recorded a match-high 16 kills. Anela Chew added 13 kills, while Haeden Baker delivered one of her most efficient performances of the season, totaling 12 kills on a .611 hitting percentage. Brooke Eglinton chipped in 10 kills and 21 digs to help power the Eagles on both sides of the ball.
The setter duo of Annette Tapia and Alice Tuci orchestrated the offense with 24 and 19 assists, respectively. Tapia also added a pair of service aces, while Tuci contributed four block assists.
Defensively, Embry-Riddle excelled with an 88-67 advantage in digs and a 12-8 edge in total blocks. Eglinton and Anela Chew each posted 21 digs, while Sydney Sniffen added 17. At the net, Hannah Clear led the way with six block assists as the Eagles consistently disrupted the Warriors' attack.
The Eagles are back in action again tomorrow night against #17 The Master's University.
