PRESCOTT, Ariz. – There was never a doubt in Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) women's basketball (1-0) game that the Eagles would not come out on top as they dominated from the tip shooting close to 50% from the field in their victory over the University of Saint Katherine (0-1),78-39.
ERAU would start the game on a 10-0 run and would never let the Firebirds within ten the rest of the game. Jazlyn Maletino (JR/Stockton, Calif.) was terrific early as she had 7 points in the first quarter and would end with 13 on 5-7 shooting from the field.
A lot of Eagles saw the floor today and they played a good brand of team basketball, of the 29 field goals made 17 were on assists. They were also extremely active with their hands as the Eagles would end the game with 12 steals. ERAU would go on a 16-0 run in the second quarter to really put the game out of reach before halftime.
Kamryn Brown (FR/Gilbert, Ariz.) would lead all scorers with 14 points and snagged 10 rebounds in her first career double-double game. ERAU would finish with four players in double figures; Haley Villegas (JR/Anthem, Ariz.) (12), Katana Martina (JR/Redding, Calif.) (12), Maletino and Brown. Riddle would go on to open up the scoring as they would get their largest lead of the game (40) in the fourth quarter before pumping the brakes.
It will be a little layoff for the Eagles as they will head down to Phoenix to take on the (22) Arizona Christian Firestorm (2-0) on Friday (11/2) at 12:00 pm.
