Box Score PHOENIX, ARIZ. – The ERAU women's basketball team found themselves in a deep hole on Saturday, trailing by as many as 23 to Southwestern Christian. The Eagles never backed down, pulling within one late in the fourth quarter before ultimately falling 67-58 in its final game of the Buccaneer Classic.
Embry-Riddle allowed a layup at 4:18 of the third quarter to trail 43-20, but the rally was on from there. The Eagles outscored Southwestern Christian 34-12 over nearly a 10 minute span, and ERAU pulled within one after Zakiirah King drained a pair of free throws.
Embry was never able to tie or take the lead, and late free throws pulled the game's final score further than the play indicated. The game stayed at a one possession lead for Southwest Christian until the final 1:15 of regulation.
Hannah Urbano put together another electric quarter, this time scoring all 15 of her points in the third frame. Urbano made five of her seven shots during the ten-minute period, and also drained all three of her free throws.
Micaela Hidalgo scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in her 28 minutes off the bench. She managed five offensive rebounds, hustling to give Embry extra opportunities during the comeback effort.
ERAU as a team crashed the offensive glass hard, grabbing 17 o-boards in comparison to Southwestern Christian's 12. Embry-Riddle's defense was relentless as well, forcing 22 turnovers on Saturday.
The Eagles find themselves on the road again next week, heading to New Mexico for a pair before the winter break. ERAU tips off against University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M. on December 2 at 5:30 p.m.
