Excellent Defense Leads Eagles to Win in Cal Pac Opener

Box Score

CHANDLER, ARIZ. – Waiting the extra two weeks for conference play feels a little better for ERAU women's basketball, as they were able to defeat in-state rival Benedictine-Mesa in the Cal Pac opener on Saturday night. The Eagles held BenU to just 22% shooting, and allowed just 15 field goals in a 67-51 win to start unbeaten in conference play for the third time in four seasons.

Freshman forward Ella Schott had a memorable night in her first Cal Pac game, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine boards. Schott was also a force inside defensively, blocking three shots, getting a steal and affecting drives all night long.

Savannah Madden had a solid all around night, grabbing seven rebounds, scoring six points and dishing out six assists. Madden was the game's leader in assists, and was an effective playmaker in the Eagles' offense on Saturday.

ERAU crashed the glass hard on the RedHawks, outrebounding the opponent 56-35. Meghan Strickler was able to grab nine rebounds off the bench, and 12 different Eagles to check into the game recorded a board.

Embry-Riddle will end its long stretch of road games next week when they host UC Merced on Friday, January 28. Tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
