Eagles Fall Despite Excellent Shooting Night

PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team shot its season high on Saturday, but a difficult night from the free throw line contributed to a 90-81 loss to Simpson. The Eagles had four players finish in double-digit scoring, and the team shot 58.5% from the field.

ERAU trailed by just three with 1:29 to go, but the Red Hawks scored the nine of the games final 12 points, mostly from the free throw line via intentional fouls. The Eagles were able to grab a lead in the second half with 9:50 after erasing a ten-point deficit, but the Red Hawks grabbed it back on the next possession and did not give it back.

Conner Verdugo was the game's leading scorer, finishing with 26 points. Conner Verdugo was lights out from three, making five of nine attempts, and shot over 50% overall on Saturday.

Jake Klinger contributed 18 points off the bench, and missing just one of hist eight field goal attempts. Klinger was a sharpshooter from deep, going 4-5 to provide a spark in the Embry-Riddle offense when the team needed it.

The Eagles had 21 assists, led by Christmas Togiai, Jr.'s six. Togiai also had ten points, and Trevor Weir dished an assist from the block to go along with his 13 points (6-9 FGs).

ERAU plays its next game on Wednesday when they travel to face Park-Gilbert in the makeup of the postponed January 8 matchup. Tipoff from The PHHacility in Phoenix is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
