Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team had a decent effort in its season opener on Sunday, but ran into a hotter shooting team in Life Pacific. The Eagles 49.1%, but the Warriors knocked down 50% of its threes despite a solid defensive effort from ERAU.
The Eagles built a small lead with 7:30 remaining in the first half, but Life Pacific's next seven makes over a 4:30 stretch were all from three-point range. Embry-Riddle was able to keep up, but trailed at the half.
The Warriors continued its hot shooting in the second half as well, and while the Eagles continued to fight, the deficit began to widen. Embry-Riddle did have three players score in double-digits, and every player to enter for ERAU on Sunday had at least one basket.
Chase Verdugo led the Eagles in scoring on Sunday, putting in 15 points on 50% shooting. Verdugo also had three assists and a pair of rebounds.
David Teibo started off his second season of college ball with an well-rounded effort, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Teibo made five of his seven shot attempts, and also dished out four assists.
Embry-Riddle will get back on the court next Saturday when they take on SAGU American Indian College. Tipoff from Phoenix, Ariz. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
