GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team got its season off on the right note, as they picked up an 82-78 over Arizona Christian on Saturday. While the Eagles allowed the game to get close in the fourth quarter, they were able to hang on for an all-important victory to start the new year.

Embry-Riddle led by 20 near the midway point of the fourth quarter, but ACU climbed its way back into the contest over the final six minutes. The Eagles were able to hold tight defensively when it mattered the most, as they never let the score get any closer than four before ultimately leaving with a six-point win.

The Eagles had a great effort on the glass, as they outrebounded ACU 48-38, with 20 of those boards coming on the offensive end. ERAU also forced 18 Firestorm turnovers, and had ten steals.

Ella Schott had an excellent day to begin her sophomore season, falling just one rebound shy of a double-double. Schott scored 16 points to go along with nine rebounds, posting a .500 field goal percentage and grabbing four offensive boards along the way.

Aryana Gonzales had an efficient day off the bench, leading the Eagles in scoring with 18 on 4-6 shooting. Gonzales also got to the free throw line 11 times, sinking nine attempts to boost the Eagle offense.

The Eagles will have a couple of days away from game action before returning to the floor for its home opener. Embry-Riddle will host OUAZ on Tuesday, November 1, with tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
