Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team faced unexpected adversity on Thursday, both before and during its contest with La Sierra. Despite a lot of obstacles, a short-handed Eagles squad nearly pulled its Cal Pac record to 3-1, but fell just short in an 84-81 loss.
Embry-Riddle had the lead a couple of times in the seesaw second half, as both teams could not pull away with a big lead. The Eagles had a chance to tie with six seconds left, but were unable to get a shot up before the clock ran out.
The Eagles had a decent shooting night, hitting 48.5% of its shots and making 11 threes. ERAU also had five players in double figures scoring, and three players shooting over 45% from the floor.
Chase Verdugo led the way scoring with 27 points behind a hot shooting night. Chase Verdugo hit 10 of his 16 shots, including seven of 11 from three. His excellent shooting also gave the opportunity for Chase Verdugo to show off his playmaking, dishing out five assists.
Dennis Pomazanov had a double-double on Thursday, getting 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Jake Klingler had 15 points, Trevor Weir had 11, and each player had seven rebounds.
The Eagles also shared the ball well, getting assists on 23 of its 32 made baskets. Christmas Togiai, Jr. had seven to lead ERAU, and Klinger was also able to finish with five.
Embry-Riddle will not wait long to chase its third conference win, as they host Antelope Valley on Friday night. Tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
