Box Score RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – After a thrilling double overtime win the night before, the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to close out its road schedule on Sunday evening. The Eagles lead by as many as eight in the third quarter, but La Sierra stayed in the game and took home the victory after completing a three-point play with 12 seconds left.
The first half was a great one for the Eagles, as they led by eight at the break and highlighted by a 10-16 shooting quarter in the first. Aryana Gonzales scored 11 points in that quarter, making 4-5 shots and a perfect 3-3 from three.
La Sierra really found its groove offensively in the second half, shooting 52.2%, and it was a tightly contested game all the way to the end. Each team had four different players finish with double-digit point totals on Sunday night.
Zakiirah King finished one rebound shy of the double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing nine boards. King made four of her seven field goals, and was a force inside, getting herself to the free throw line seven times.
The Eagles crashed the glass hard all night long, as they finished +13 in the rebounding advantage. On the offensive end, ERAU created plenty of second chance opportunities, getting 23 offensive rebounds, with three different players getting four or more.
Embry-Riddle will wrap up its regular season with games against its in-state foes as the postseason approaches. The Eagles will first match up with Park-Gilbert on February 17, with tip-off from the ERAU Activity Center scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
