Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team needed a big win this week, and got one of them on Thursday night against Simpson. The Eagles earned a season series sweep of the Red Hawks, never trailing once and pulling away early in the second half.
The game had an ugly start, as there was not a point scored until 2:20 into the contests when Dennis Pomazanov threw down a dunk to pull the momentum into ERAU's favor. Embry-Riddle scored the game's first eight points and despite the game being tied during the first half, the Eagles never trailed.
Pomazanov had a brilliant start to the game, as he had five points and nine rebounds in the first ten minutes. Pomazanov finished with 15 rebounds to go along with 12 points, a block and two assists.
Conner Verdugo finished with a game-high 16 points, scoring in a variety of ways on Thursday. Conner Verdugo also pulled in five rebounds, dished out five assists, nabbed a steal and blocked a shot.
Jake Klingler continued his hot streak, scoring 14 points on 50% shooting and a perfect percentage from the free throw line. Klinger was also able to hand out six assists, plus getting two steals and blocking a shot as well.
Christmas Togiai, Jr. had a game-high seven assists to go with six points and seven rebounds. Chase Verdugo had 12 points on 5-7 shooting, using the scoring threat to post a trio of assists on the night.
Embry-Riddle will look for another important win as they host UC Merced on Friday night. Tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
