Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – After a two-week break from game action, the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team came out firing against Park-Gilbert on Tuesday evening. The Eagles scored the game's first 12 points, and Embry-Riddle led by as many as 17 in the second quarter.
The game became tighter than anybody anticipated, and the Eagles trailed by one point with just 42 seconds remaining. ERAU locked in and played its best final 42 seconds of basketball this season, scoring the game's final four points to take a 71-68 victory.
Aryana Gonzales would hit what would be the game-winning shot with 22 seconds remaining, the final of her trio of three-point makes on the night. Gonzales made two of those three-pointers in the fourth quarter, providing a spark off the bench when the Eagles needed it the most.
Mehgan Strickler continues to be an excellent rebounder, grabbing 14 of them on Tuesday night. Strickler also poured in 12 points for another double-double, and added five assists, three blocks and a steal.
Zakiirah King had a double-double as well, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. King was able to get four offensive rebounds, and had two assists, two blocks and a steal while being an effective presence defensively all night long.
The Eagles as a team crashed the rebounds hard all night long, finishing with a 57-38 advantage. The 26 offensive rebounds ERAU pulled down was just as many defensive boards Park-Gilbert had on Tuesday.
Embry-Riddle will have a chance to push its conference record to 5-2 on Friday when they host Pacific Union. Tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
