Box Score A late run by SAGU American Indian College propelled the Warriors to a three point, 71-68 win over Embry-Riddle on Saturday evening.
ERAU led early as Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) and Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) started strong. Pomazanov made a layup and a jump shot and Klingler added a three as the Eagles led 10-4 with 14:50 to go in the first half. The Warriors tied the game at 12-12 with 12:10 left in the half, but Embry-Riddle scored the next nine points as they took a 21-12 lead on a three point shot by Rhys McVay (Spokane, Wash.). At the half, ERAU was up by six points with the score 37-31.
SAGU got within two points to start half two, but Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) made a layup to extend the lead back to four points. The Eagle lead didn't last long as the Warriors tied the game at 39-39 with 14:55 to go. Klingler scored the next four Embry-Riddle points on two free throws and a layup with 13:16 left. Neither team scored for two minutes until SAGU did and took the lead. There were many lead changes in the second half, but the Warriors led late and it was too much for Embry-Riddle to catch up.
Pomazanov led ERAU with a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Klingler added 17 points, Togiai Jr, finished the game with six assists, and McVay led the Eagles defensively with four steals.
Embry-Riddle will look to start the new year right as they host Cal Maritime on Thursday, January 4th for a 7:30pm tip off.
