Box Score Embry-Riddle Women's Basketball moved to 2-1 in the Cal Pac after they dropped their game to Park Gilbert on Tuesday evening as the Eagles lost 59-49 to the Buccaneers in Mesa, Ariz.
Both ERAU and Park struggled to score to open the game as after three minutes went by in the first quarter, the Buccaneers held a 4-0 lead. Zakiirah King (Chandler, Ariz.) made a three point basket to get Embry-Riddle on the board with just under six minutes to play in the opening quarter. After King's basket, neither team scored again until Liz Behan (St. Peters, Mo.) made a layup with 4:32 left to make the score 6-5 with Park in the lead. The Buccaneers scored the next six points before Hannah Urbano (Kailua, Hawaii) scored for the Eagles. Behan made one more layup in the quarter and after the first ten minutes Park held a 15-10 lead.
Four minutes went off the clock in the second quarter before Grace Meshanko (Fairfax, Va.) made a free throw to get ERAU to 11 points and just 30 seconds later Susie Reynoso (Escondido, Calif.) connected on a layup to make the score 13-21. At the half, the Buccaneers led 33-17.
Park went up by as many as 23 points before Embry-Riddle made a run. Midway through the third quarter, King made back to back layups and Micaela Hidalgo (Greeley, Colo.) added two points to cut the Buccaneer lead to 18. Park used a little run of their own to finish the third quarter with a 51-29 lead.
To begin the fourth quarter, ERAU scored the first nine points to cut the lead to 14 with the score at 37-51. Kate McBride (Atlanta, Ga.) scored five points in the final ten minutes for the Eagles but it wasn't quite enough as Park stopped the Embry-Riddle comeback effort and closed out the game 59-49. '
Behan finished with a double-double as she had 10 rebounds and 13 points for the Eagles. Urbano added ten points. Mehgan Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) had eight rebounds and three blocks for ERAU on the night.
Embry-Riddle will be home on Thursday as Benedictine Mesa comes to town with tip-off scheduled for 5:30pm in the Activity Center.
