Box Score MESA, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle basketball team has a clear path to the Cal Pac Tournament – win each of its final four games of the season. The Eagles embarked on that journey with a win on Friday night, defeating Park-Gilbert 86-79 on the road.
Embry-Riddle led by 11 early in the first half, but its lead was cut down to five with 12 minutes to play. In just a 3:30 stretch, the Eagles quickly found themselves down by five, but did not quit and fought back to take the lead again with 3:40 to play.
Embry-Riddle did a great job getting to the free throw line, getting 48 attempts from the charity stripe. ERAU took advantage, making 40 of those chances to help in put the game away.
After Christmas Togiai, Jr. tied the contest at 65 with 4:08 to play, the Eagles outscored the Buccaneers 21-14 to take the win. Embry-Riddle did push its lead to as much as 10 with in that stretch, putting together its best four minutes of the season to close out its most important win to date.
All five Eagle starters finished with at least 13 points, led by Jake Klingler's 21. Klingler made all four of his field goal attempts, all from three-point range, made nine free throws, and also pulled in 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Dennis Pomazanov also had a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling in 13 rebounds. Pomazanov also made eight free throws, had four steals and a pair of assists.
Conner Verdugo made 10 of his 11 free throws to go along with a 3-for-5 shooting performance for 17 points. Conner Verdugo also pulled in five rebounds and was able to dish out a trio of assists.
The Eagles will continue its postseason push on Sunday when they host Benedictine Mesa. Tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center is scheduled for 4 p.m., with Senior Day ceremonies set for approximately 3:40 p.m.
