Box Score SAN MARCOS, CALIF. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team played potentially its worst first half in conference play on Friday night, entering the break down 13 and scoring just 22 points through the first 20 minutes. The Eagles then played maybe its best second half of the Cal Pac slate, putting together an excellent effort to eventually defeat Saint Katherine, 63-56.
In the third quarter, Embry-Riddle allowed USK to score just six points, and the Firebirds did not score its first points of the frame until there was just 1:39 left. The Eagles used a 17-0 run to take a four-point lead, then entered the final quarter up by two.
USK eventually got themselves back into the game, and even led by a point with two minutes to go. After the Firebirds took a 56-55 lead with just 120 seconds remaining, ERAU went on an 8-0 run to close out the contest and wrap up the regular season with a seven-point win.
Zakiirah King had another monster night, scoring 20 points and pulling in seven rebounds. King did most of her damage in the second half, where she missed just one shot and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor in the third quarter.
Mehgan Strickler did an excellent job getting to the free throw line, going a perfect six-of-six from the line and finishing with 13 points. Strickler also pulled in six rebounds and tied for the game-high in assists with three.
The Eagles will now head off to the Cal Pac Tournament, where they will be the three seed. The tournament will be played at Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Ariz. and begins next Saturday, February 25.
