Box Score 2 GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle softball team earned a doubleheader split with one of the best teams in the NAIA on Saturday. The Eagles dropped its first game to No. 7 Oregon Tech, but fought back in the afternoon finale to take home a season-building win.
Game 1: #7 Oregon Tech 5, (RV) Embry-Riddle 0
It was a tough start to the day for the Eagles, who managed just six baserunners over the seven innings. Diana Miranda Montano posted a 2-for-3 line in the first game, and Autumn Sulusi also had a hit.
Oregon Tech slowly built its lead, scoring once in the second and twice in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Neither team scored through the middle innings, but the Owls added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Game 2: (RV) Embry-Riddle 5, No. 7 Oregon Tech 3
The Eagles scored all five of its runs in the third inning, erasing a 2-0 deficit to quickly jump ahead by three. ERAU got two big hits to score its runs as well – a two-run home run by Kate Delaney and a three-run double by Sulusi to clear the bases.
In the bottom of the third, the Eagles had five of its seven hits, and also took advantage of walks and errors. All of the Eagles runs and hits came with two outs, and the entire lineup came to the plate during the frame.
Delany was the only Eagle to have a multi-hit game, getting a single in the fifth to go along with the home run. In all, ERAU had six different players record a hit, and had three extra-base hits.
Claire Streeter had a good second career start, throwing 110 pitches to earn the complete-game win. Streeter struck out a pair, and also allowed just three hits.
Embry-Riddle will have another busy week, as they play two in-state foes in two games next weekend. The four-game week will start with a doubleheader at OUAZ on Friday, February 10.
