Embry-Riddle wrestled well at the Firestorm Open hosted by Arizona Christian in Glendale on Saturday as three Eagles placed in their weight classes.
At 125lbs for ERAU, Jaren Kimura (Mililani, Hawaii) finished 2nd. Kimura won by tech fall in his first two matches before falling by a decision 6-2 in the championship bout.
Sam Humphrey, Adam Stanley (Costa Mesa, Calif.), Peyton Proper (Marana, Ariz.), and Anthony Pavlov-Ramirez (Los Gatos, Calif.) all wrestled at the 149lb weight class. Stanley won one of his matches in the consolation bracket a 17-4 major decision. Proper dropped his first match of the day, but came back to win two in the consolation bracket, one by tech fall and one by fall in 2:20. Pavlov-Ramirez won two matches on the day, his first match 12-1 and the second 13-5.
At the 157lb weight class, Asher King-Orlando (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) finished in second. King-Orlando received a first round bye and then won his next two matches. He won 18-6 to earn a major decision and then won 20-6 for another major decision.
Sherman Sheldon (Casa Grande, Ariz.) and Seth Sandoval (Long Beach, Calif.) both wrestled at 184lbs. Sheldon lost his first match but then came back to earn an 18-8 major decision in his second match of the day. Sandoval also lost his first match and won his second by fall in 3:40.
At 197lbs for the Eagles, Jett Swain (Vernal, Utah) finished in first place. Swain won his first match by injury default in 4:15 and his second with a 10-0 major decision. In his final match of the day, Swain won by fall in 2:18.
Embry-Riddle will wrestle at the Cascade Conference Championships next weekend held in La Grande, Oregon at Eastern Oregon University.
