Team Effort Leads to 4th Straight Cal Pac Win for Eagles

Box Score

Embry-Riddle led from start to finish in their 77-50 win over the Pioneers of Pacific Union in Angwin on Thursday evening.

Mehgan Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) picked up right where she left off last week as she scored the first four points of the game on two layups.  After a Micaela Hidalgo (Greeley, Colo.) jump shot, the Pioneers made a three to make the score 6-3 with 6:50 left in the first quarter.  ERAU scored the next four points and quickly led by seven.  The Eagles extended their lead to 13 points by the time the first quarter ended with the score 22-9.

Nicole Evenson (Bemidji, Minn.) scored five quick points to start the second quarter and Grace Meshanko (Fairfax, Va.) and Imani Alegria (Goodyear, Ariz.) made back to back layups to make the score 31-13 Embry-Riddle.  PUC scored the last five points of the half and the score at the half was 26-25 ERAU.

Embry-Riddle started strong to start the second half as Hidalgo scored four points on two layups to get the Eagle lead back to 16 points.  After a bucket by the Pioneers, Susie Reynoso (Escondido, Calif.) and Strickler each added another to make the score 45-27 with 7:10 to go in the third quarter.  Pacific Union cut into the lead with four points before Ella Schott (Cave Creek, Ariz.) stopped their run with a jump shot.  Out of the third quarter media timeout, the Eagles forced a shot clock violation and turned it into two quick points on a layup by Zakiirah King (Chandler, Ariz.).  At the end of the third quarter, Embry-Riddle held a 57-40 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Liz Behan (St. Peters, Mo.) scored the first four points to run the Eagle lead to 21 points. The ERAU defense stood strong to start the final quarter as the Pioneers didn't score a point until there was five minutes left in the game, but by then the Embry-Riddle lead had reached 29 points and the Eagles went on to win the game 77-50.

ERAU shared the ball well as King and Evenson both led the team with 11 points and thirteen different players scored for the Eagles.  Behan and Strickler each grabbed seven rebounds for Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles will play again on Saturday at Cal Maritime in Vallejo where tipoff is scheduled for 3pm MST.
