Box Score Embry-Riddle won both games against Pacific Union this season as the Eagles beat the Pioneers in Angwin on Thursday evening by a score of 94-77.
ERAU jumped out to an 8-0 lead as Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) scored four points and Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) and Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) each added a basket. The Eagle lead forced the Pioneers to use a quick timeout. Out of the timeout, Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) made back to back threes as Embry-Riddle took a 14-0 lead. PUC didn't score for the first four minutes of the game. Two Klingler free throws put ERAU up 22-2 with 12:07 left in the first half. The Pioneers scored the next nine points to cut the ERAU led in half at 22-11. Four free throws in a row by Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) followed by a Brett Bush (Nicholasville, Ky.) gave ERAU their largest lead of the game at 22 points with 6:33 remaining in the half. PUC worked to cut into the Eagle lead as they went on a 7-1 run to make the score 38-22. At the half Embry-Riddle led 45-27.
Pacific Union came out quick in the second half and cut the lead down to 15 points. Klingler made four free throws in a row, followed by a Togiai, Jr. three point basket as ERAU took their lead back at 54-32. Hackett added another layup and Pomazanov a dunk to bring Embry-Riddle to a 58-34 lead with 15:30 left in the game. The teams traded baskets with the Pioneers not getting closer than 20 points until they cut the lead to 19 with 10 minutes remaining. Pacific Union made back to back three point baskets to cut the Eagle lead to 15 with 6:46 to go in the game, but Klingler answered right back with a layup for ERAU. With just under two minutes left in the second half, the Pioneers had cut the lead to 13 points. Embry-Riddle got a big stop on defense and turned it into a David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) layup on the other end to regain control. The Eagles went on to win the game 94-77.
Klingler led ERAU with 22 points, Togiai, Jr. added 19, and Hackett 18. Hackett led the team in rebounds with 8 and Togiai, Jr. dished out four assists for the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle will play again on Saturday in Vallejo at Cal Maritime at 4pm.
