Daniil Gorshkov, Trenton Blomquist, and
Kenneth Copley all won individual titles as the Eagles also took home the team trophy at the Mile High Open hosted in the Activity Center on Saturday.
125lbs
Jaren Kimura came in 3rd place. Kimura started the day with two falls before he lost to move to the consolation bracket. In the consolation bracket he won three more matches, two of which were by fall on his way to his 3rd place finish.Â
141lbs
Yoshiya Funakoshi and
Adam Stanley both wrestled at 141lbs. Funakoshi took second and Stanley finished 4th for ERAU. In his first match of the day, Funakoshi won by tech fall followed by by a major decision in his second match. He then won by fall in his 3rd match before falling the championship. Stanley won two matches by fall and one by major decision on his way to his 4th place finish.
149lbs
Axel Esparza finished in 2nd place for the Eagles. Esparza won two matches by major decision and two by decision.
157lbs
Embry-Riddle had
Jacob Briggs, Sam Humphrey, and
Parker Buhr wrestle at 157lbs. Briggs finished the day 2-2, Humphrey 0-2, and Buhr went 1-2. Â
174lbs
Thomas Stadel, JJ Schoenlein, and Gorshkov all wrestled at 174lbs. Stadel lost his first match but then worked his way through the consolation bracket with two wins by fall and a close 10-8 win by decision before losing. Schoenlein finished in 4th place in the weight class. After dropping his first match he won five straight before he reached his match limit for the day. Four of his wins were by fall.
184lbs
Wyatt Rewerts finished in second place at 184lbs. He won his first three matches before dropping the championship match. Â
Tauataina Tuikolongahau also wrestled at 184 and finished the day 2-2. Â
197lbs
Blomquist won one match by tech fall, one by fall and two by decision on his way to the championship. Â
285lbs
Copley took home the title at 285lbs finishing 4-0 and winning one match by tech fall and the other three all by fall. Â
Next for ERAU will be the Roadrunner Open on November 23rd hosted by Cal State Bakersfield. Â
