Embry-Riddle had five wrestlers place in the top three in their weight class led by
Jaren Kimura who finished 1st at 133lbs at the Firestorm Open hosted by Arizona Christian on Saturday.
Kimura had a 17-0 tech fall win in his first match followed by a 19-3 tech fall win in his second to reach the championship. Kimura then won the first place match with a 12-7 decision.
At 157lbs,
Sam Humphrey finished in 2nd place. Humphrey won his first two matches by major decision winning 18-10 and 11-0. He then won by fall in 4:34 in his semifinal match. In the championship he lost 11-4.
Peyton Proper was second at 165lbs. Proper won his first match by decision with the score 8-5. He pinned his second opponent in just 37 seconds and then won 6-3 to reach the championship. In the final he lost a tight 13-11 match.
At 184lbs,
Thomas Stadel came in 3rd place. He won by fall in his first match in 1:15. Stadel then won by tech fall 15-0 before losing the championship match by a 9-3 decision.
Sherman Sheldon also finished in 2nd place at 197lbs. Sheldon lost his first match but worked his way through the consolation bracket with two wins by fall.
Embry-Riddle will head to Redding, California next to participate in the Cascade Collegiate Conferene Championships hosted by Simpson University.
