Box Score SIOUX CITY, Iowa – After another good showing and hard fought match (18) Embry-Riddle Aeronuatical University (Ariz.) volleyball (0-2) somehow came up on the wrong side of their match with (2) Park University (2-0) at the 2018 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship losing in straight sets, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.
Their first set was not the way that the Eagles wanted to start this match although there were some positives late in the set. Unfortunately, the Pirates were firing on all cylinders from the opening serve and put the Eagles in a hole quickly. ERAU would stay around long enough to give PU a scare late in the set after putting a couple of small runs together and forcing the Pirates to call a timeout. Caylee Robalin (SO/El Paso, Texas), Erin Clark (SO/Phoenix, Ariz.) and Sharik Joseph (SO/San Diego, Calif.) all had decent totals getting 3+ kills in the first. Park would hold on a take the set, 25-19.
ERAU looked much better in the second set and had some good opportunities throughout. They used some of that momentum that they had late in the first set to jump start the second. Jalin Yoder (SR/Fountain Hills, Ariz.) was in her bag and used the line, dropped it behind blockers and put it through them when needed. Riddle would lose some of their steam but utilized a couple of scrambles to get back in it. Both teams were locked in and wouldn't budge a point and it was tied late. A couple of points were taken from the Eagles and fell the Pirates way who would go on to take the set and a two set lead.
Once again the Eagles dropped a few points at the onset and gave Park the lead early in the third. After a timeout the Eagles rallied and got back their swagger and held the lead for a number of points. ERAU was starting to find it and then Park put together a small run that did just enough to put the Eagles on their heels. Park would hold on and take the set and match 25-20.
Although things are grim but the Eagles will play another match tomorrow (11/29) at 5:00 pm MST against the hosts Morningside College in their last pool play showing.
