Box Score IRVINE, CALIF. – Coming out of the off week, the Embry-Riddle volleyball team was looking to gain momentum with the second half of the schedule coming up. The Eagles got that perfect momentum-builder, handing Westcliff its first conference loss of the year on Thursday.
After winning a tightly-contested first set 25-23, the Eagles dropped the second set 25-17. While ERAU had a tough time attacking in that second set, the team only picked up momentum from there.
The Eagles took the third set 25-18, and then were dominant in what would be the final frame of the match. Embry-Riddle hit a whopping .448 in the fourth set, committing just one attack error and winning 25-13 to leave the Cal Pac without any undefeated teams in conference play.
In that third set, the Eagles trailed 16-9, and looked to be pushed to the brink of its fourth consecutive loss. Instead, Embry-Riddle outscored Westcliff 16-2, and took 12 of final 13 points to win the third set, then used that momentum to close out the match in the fourth.
Dalia Haase had an amazing night, as she had 12 kills and just one attack error for a .480 hitting percentage. Haase was also a force in the middle defensively once again, picking up three solo blocks to go along with a block assist.
Adiva Joseph led the Eagles in kills on Thursday, as she finished with 14. In fact, three different ERAU players had 10+ kills, as Emma Barber also recorded 10 in the victory.
Katie Rolle was excellent once again in running the offense, finishing with 40 assists. Rolle also added three kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces.
Erika Herr had an excellent night defensively, racking up 20 digs to lead the entire match. Four different Eagles had 11 or more digs, and ERAU finished with 67 on the night.
The Eagles will continue its road trip, and look to continue its trip up the standings, as they visit Saint Katherine on Friday night. First serve from San Marcos, Calif. is scheduled for 6 p.m.
