Eagles Sweep Seabeggars

Box Score

Embry-Riddle swept the Seabeggars of Providence Christian tonight in Pasadena to extend their winning streak to eight matches.

After the Seabeggars scored the first point in the first set, the Eagles scored the next six as Emma Barber (Goodyear, Ariz.) had two service aces, Dalia Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) had her first kill of the night, and Katie Rolle (Missoula, Mont.) added a kill as well.  PCC scored to make the score 7-2 before ERAU got a block from Alexsandra Rodriguez (Phoenix, Ariz.) and an ace from Rolle to go up by 7 with the score at 10-3.  Providence Christian made it close as they scored four points in a row to make the score 11-8 but Haase put the Eagles back in the driver seat with another kill.  With the score at 17-13 in favor of Embry-Riddle, ERAU put together a four point run to pull away from the Seabeggars as the Eagles won set 1 25-20.

Similar to the first set, PCC scored the first points as they took a 2-0 lead.  Embry-Riddle however scored the next nine as Haase had two more kills on her night, Hannah Clear (Fort Worth, Texas) had two during the run, and Lily Figgins (St. Charles, Mo.) added another ERAU service ace.  Just like the Eagles went on a run, the Seabeggars went on one of their own and came within one point at 11-10.  Kelly Hansen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) gave Embry-Riddle a two point lead at 12-10, but a few Eagle mistakes put PCC back in the game as they tied the score at 16-16 and actually took a 17-16 lead from ERAU.  Embry-Riddle did not back down though as they used another long 7-0 scoring run to take the lead back as a kill from Rodriguez put the Eagles up 23-17.  ERAU won the set 25-18 and went up 2-0 in the match.

The third set was the closest as the teams went back and forth as neither team could get more than a four point lead.  Back to back kills from Hansen put ERAU up 8-6 and then after the Seabaggers scored, she did it again as the Eagles went up 11-7.  PCC used some timely attacking paired with a few Eagle errors to get themselves back in the game as they were able to tie the score at 17-17 before Haase and Hansen each added another kill to put Embry-Riddle up 20-17.  In the closing points, Barber had two kills and Haase closed out the set 25-20 as the Eagles won the match 3-0.

Rodriguez led the Eagles with nine kills tonight and Haase hit .462 to lead ERAU offensively.  Rolle finished the night with 24 assists and added five kills with zero errors as Figgins led the team with nine digs.

Embry-Riddle will have the day off tomorrow before they play league leading Saint Katherine's on Saturday at 2pm in San Marcos.
