Eagles Sweep Bobcats for Second Time this Season

Box Score

Embry-Riddle volleyball moved to 13-3 in the Cal Pac with their sweep of UC Merced in California tonight.

ERAU jumped out to a lead right away as Erika Herr (Buckley, Wash.) started off the game with a service ace.  After a few errors by both teams, Alexsandra Rodriguez (Phoenix, Ariz.) got the first Eagle kill of the night followed with a kill by Hannah Clear (Fort Worth, Texas) to give ERAU a 6-2 lead.  After a UC Merced point, Clear added another kill along with Emma Barber (Goodyear, Ariz.) adding one herself as ERAU went up 10-4.  The Bobcats got within three points at 12-9 before Dalia Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) recorded a kill to put the Eagles up 4.  Embry-Riddle didn't let UC Merced get any closer as Clear, Haase, Barber, and Rodriguez mixed it up offensively and the Eagles won the set 25-19.

In the second set, after the score was tied 1-1, Embry-Riddle used a 6-0 run as they took a 7-1 lead.  During the run, Lily Figgins (St. Charles, Mo.) had two service aces.  After the Bobcats scored their second point, Katie Rolle (Missoula, Mont.) got ERAU back on track with a kill and started another little run by the Eagles as they took a 10-2 lead.  Embry-Riddle moved the ball around well and played stellar defense as they won the second set 25-7 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.

UC Merced took the lead early in the third set as ERAU had a few errors, but the Eagles were able to battle back.  After Embry-Riddle tied the score at 8-8, the Eagles took a lead on another Barber kill and forced a Bobcat timeout.  Out of the timeout, Merced scored the next two as they went up 12-11 in the set.  An error and a kill by Rodriguez gave ERAU the lead back and they used their momentum to go on and win the set 25-17.

Rodriguez hit .400 for Embry-Riddle tonight as she finished the match with seven kills. Barber had ten kills on the night and Rolle had 28 assists for the Eagles.

Embry-Riddle plays again next in Redding as they take on the Redhawks of Simpson University at 6pm.
