Embry-Riddle Sweeps Pacific Union to Start Weekend

Box Score

Embry-Riddle earned a 3-0 sweep over the Pioneers of Pacific Union College on Thursday in the Eagle Gym.

The Pioneers kept the first set of the night close as the Eagles won 26-24.  Dalia Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) got the ERAU offense going early as she had the first kill of the night off of a Katie Rolle (Missoula, Mont.) assist.  The Pioneers took an early lead from the Eagles as they went up 5-2, but back to back kills by Hannah Clear (Fort Worth, Texas) put Embry-Riddle within one point.  ERAU tied the match as they got kills from Haase, Rolle, and Emma Barber (Goodyear, Ariz.) as the score was 9-9.  After another Haase kill and an Erika Herr (Buckley, Wash.) service ace, Embry-Riddle took the lead at 11-9. The Eagles took a three point lead, but weren't able to pull from enough away from the Pioneers.  PUC went up 23-22 but Embry-Riddle scored the next three points to make it game point at 24-23 and the won the set 26-24.

In the second set, Embry-Riddle came out swinging as the first four points were kills by the Eagles.  Clear had one, Haase added two, and Alexsandra Rodriguez (Phoenix, Ariz.) added another before the Pioneers scored their first point.  The Eagles forced PUC to use an early timeout as their offense was clicking and the lead became 7-1.  The Pioneers were able to get within three points, but that was the closest they got for the rest of the set.  A few errors on PUC and a mix of Eagles getting in offensively closed out the set with another ERAU win with a score of 25-14.

After Barber and Haase got the Eagles going in set 3, Hie Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii) had five serves in a row which included one ace as ERAU got off to a 6-2 lead.  Lily Figgins (St. Charles, Mo.) had four service aces in the final set.  Embry-Riddle spread the ball well again as Rodriguez, Clear, Barber, Haase, and Kelly Hansen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) all recorded kills in the third set.  Embry-Riddle won the set 25-10 which gave them the match 3-0.

Clear led the Eagles with 13 kills tonight and only one error as she hit .632.  Haase finished with 11 kills, Rodriguez with 9, and Barber with 8.  Rolle had 36 assists during the match and Figgins added in 19 digs to lead ERAU.

Embry-Riddle will play again tomorrow against the Bobcats of UC Merced.  The game is scheduled to start at 6pm.
