Box Score Embry-Riddle continued to dominate offensively and swept UC Merced tonight in the Eagle Gym to move to 7-2 in Cal Pac play.
ERAU hit .375 in the first set as they had 14 kills with only two errors. They also held the Bobcats to a hitting percentage of .077. Embry-Riddle got off to a lead with a kill from Dalia Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) and they never trailed in the set. After being tied 4-4, ERAU went on a 9-2 run as they got kills from Kelly Hansen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), Alexsandra Rodriguez (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Emma Barber (Goodyear, Ariz.) to go up 13-6. UC Merced put together a little run of their own, and get the Bobcats within 3 as the score was 16-13 still in favor of the Eagles. Another Rodriguez kill put an end to the run by UC Merced and make the score 17-13. After an attack error by the Bobcats, Hansen recorded another kill and forced UC Merced to call a timeout as Embry-Riddle was up 21-15. Haase recorded the last three kills of the set for Embry-Riddle as the Eagles won 25-19.
UC Merced had an early lead in the second set at 2-1, but Rodriguez and Hannah Clear (Fort Worth, Texas) quickly erased that and put ERAU ahead 3-2. The Bobcats took the lead again, but a kill by Barber tied the set at 10-10. After two errors by UCM and a Haase kill, Embry-Riddle was up 13-10 and forced the Bobcats to call a timeout. The Eagles led by more than three points for the rest of the set as Clear and Katie Rolle (Missoula, Mont.) combined for back to back blocks and put ERAU up 16-11. Clear added two more kills to her stats and Embry-Riddle closed out the set on another Barber kill as they won 25-14.
The Bobcats didn't go down without a fight as the third set went back and forth with many lead changes and ties. Embry-Riddle scored first as Rolle continued her strong defensive night with another block assist, this time combining with Haase to put ERAU up 1-0. After a few errors on each team along with a few kills by each offense, the score was tied 8-8. The teams traded the next couple of points before another Rolle/Clear block gave Embry-Riddle a 13-11 lead. UC Merced scored the next five points though to retake the lead at 16-13 and this time it was ERAU who needed a timeout. Embry-Riddle came out of the timeout and forced two UC Merced attack errors and Clear put the ball to the floor for another kill and give Embry-Riddle a 17-16 lead. After the Eagles took the lead, they never trailed again as Barber closed out the set 25-22 and ERAU swept the match for the second night in a row.
Embry-Riddle held UC Merced to hitting percentages of .077, .000, and .053 as the Eagles hit .375, .300, and .222 in the win. Haase led ERAU with 11 kills, as Rolle had 33 assists, and Lily Figgins (St. Charles, MO.) added 12 digs. Rolle and Clear each had four block assists as well for Embry-Riddle.
ERAU plays again tomorrow at home against Simpson University at 4pm in the Eagle Gym. It will be the last game for ERAU before they have a week off as they finish the first half of Cal Pac play.
