Box Score 2 After finishing Friday's game that was suspended in the 4th inning due to the weather with an 8-0 run rule, Embry-Riddle earned the sweep over Simpson with a 9-8 9th inning win in the second game.
Game 1
The first game of the series started on Friday and ERAU held a 4-0 lead with all four runs coming in the bottom of the 2nd inning before the game was halted due to the Prescott weather.
In the 2nd inning, Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.) led off with a single. Almodoba's single was followed with Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) and Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) being walked to load the bases. Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) then hit a deep line drive to right field and was able to get all the way around the bases for the inside the park grand slam and give Embry-Riddle the 4-0 lead.
When the game picked back up on Saturday, the Eagles scored two more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) was hit by a pitch to get on first base. Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) hit an infield single and then Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) was walked to load the bases one again. Almodoba came up and hit a single that scored both Judge and Miranda Montano. After 4 innings of play ERAU led 6-0.
The Eagles finished the game in the bottom of the 6th inning as Almodoba led off with a single and then Jaden Espinoza (Tucson, Ariz.) was hit by a pitch. A double by Anise Romo (Waddell, Ariz.) was deep enough to score both runners and Embry-Riddle won the game 8-0.
Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) earned the win as she gave up just one hit and struck out eight RedHawk batters.
Game 2
The second game went back and forth between Embry-Riddle and Simpson as the lead changed multiple times, however ERAU went on to win the game in extra innings 9-8.
Simpson jumped on top right away with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles answered right away in the bottom half of the inning. Judge led off with a single and then Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) hit a double to put runners at first and second. Miranda Montano doubled to the center field fence and both runners scored making the score 2-2. Two batters later Sam Holbert (Gilbert, Ariz.) hit a double and Embry-Riddle had their first lead at 3-2.
In the top of the 2nd inning, the RedHawks retook the lead with three runs on three hits and they led 5-3 until the 3rd inning.
After Miranda Montano hit a single in the bottom of the 3rd, Delaney and Holbert hit back to back home runs to put Embry-Riddle back ahead 6-5.
No lead was safe in the game as Simpson scored three more runs in the top of the 5th inning on a homerun and they led 8-6.
When it seemed like the Eagles were running out of time, Almodoba led off the bottom of the 6th with a triple to right field. Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) then hit a double to the left field fence that Almodoba scored on to bring ERAU within a run. Espinoza then pinch hit and hit a double that was able to score the pinch runner Bradee Jeffery (Manteca, Calif.) and the teams were tied 8-8 after six innings.
Neither team scored until Embry-Riddle was able to walk it off in the bottom of the 9th inning. Anderson started it off with a walk followed by another single from Miranda Montano. A single by Delaney scored Anderson as the Eagles won 9-8.
Delaney was the winning pitcher in game two as she came in in the 7th inning and pitched three scoreless innings for ERAU.
Embry-Riddle will head to San Marcos next weekend to continue Cal Pac play with Saint Katherine's.
