Box Score Embry-Riddle has won the California Pacific Conference regular season and conference tournament in each of the last three seasons and on Friday the Eagles downed the Redhawks 5-3 at Eagle Softball Field to take the tournament crown and complete the three peat.
After Simpson scored in the top of the 2nd inning, Embry-Riddle scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) led off the inning with a double and Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.) followed with a single. Jaden Espinoza (Tucson, Ariz.) moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt. One batter later, Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) hit a homerun off the scoreboard to give ERAU the 3-1 advantage.
The Redhawks added a run in the top of the 4th to make it a one run game with the score 3-2.
Embry-Riddle got two insurance runs on two solo homeruns. The first came in the bottom of the 5th inning off the bat of Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) and the second in the bottom of the 6th from Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.). Simpson scored one run in the top of the 7th, but Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) shut down the Redhawks after that to give ERAU the 5-3 win.
Delaney started the game in the circle pitching four solid innings. Claire Streeter (San Marino, Calif.) came in for Delaney in relief and didn't give up a hit in her two innings.
Embry-Riddle will move on to play in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round which will be played May 13th-16th at ten sites around the country. The Softball Bracket will be revealed Tuesday, May 7th at 2pm.
