Embry-Riddle had a good first day at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships as 11 of ERAU's 12 wrestlers advanced to the second day and seven wrestlers are in the semifinals.
Landon Smith, Adam Stanley, Jonah Chew, Keller Rock, Daniil Gorshkov, Trenton Blomquist, and
Kenneth Copley all reached the semifinals in their weight class.
Smith won both of his matches today by fall at 125lbs. His first match lasted 2 minutes and 43 seconds before the fall was called and in the second he got the win by pin just as the final buzzer was going off.
At 133lbs,
Jaren Kimura and
Allen Hendricks both wrestled. Kimura lost both of his matches, but Hendricks is still alive in the consolation bracket. Hendricks won his first match by pin and won a match in the consolation bracket by major decision 8-0.
ERAU has two wrestlers still going at 141lbs as Stanley advanced to the semifinals with a win by fall in his first match and a 5-4 decision in his quarterfinal bout.
Christian Lopez won his first match 7-2 before falling in a close 5-3 match. Lopez won his consolation round match by fall in 2:46.
Chew received a first round bye and then won his one match so far by tech fall in 6:24.
At 157lbs,
Logan Hancey is still going in the consolation bracket. Hancey won his first match by fall in 6:30 before falling in his second match of the day. Hancey won by medical forfeit in his consolation matchup and will continue on Saturday.
Rock is 2-0 so far in the tournament at 165lbs winning by fall in his first match and he used a 10-7 sudden victory win to advance to the semifinals.
Gorshkov has only wrestled once so far at 174lbs after receiving a first round bye and won 19-4.
At 197lbs, Blomquist used a 10-0 major decision win to advance to the semifinals.
At 285lbs, Copley is in the semifinals and
Corbin Hayes is still alive in the consolation bracket. Copley won both of his matches by fall, the first in 1:18 and the second in 2:13. Hayes won his first match 7-3 and then lost a tight 7-4 sudden victory match. In his consolation match, Hayes won 4-2.
Wrestling will begin again tomorrow morning at 11am Arizona time at Simpson University.
