The Lady Eagles challenged themselves to focus on finishing their opportunities to score today, and finish them they did, as they blanked the Flames of Bethesda University 8-0 this afternoon. Wasting no time in getting ERAU on the board, junior midfielder
Sidney Jones tucked a goal in the side netting in the 5thminute of play after she took possession of a pass from sophomore
Kalyn Goodenough. After that assist, Goodenough would add a pair of goals herself in the 17th and 18th minutes, with assists from
Carissa Frazier and
Chelsea Page respectively. That made the score 3-0 early on, and the Eagles offensive power continue to pour on. Junior
Amanda Bennett made it 4-0 off the assist from
Silvia Villegas, and then freshman
Estelle Fortes made it 5-0 off an assist from
Karen Murphy.
The second stanza saw more of the same pressure from ERAU. Sophomore
Kalyn Goodenough completed her hat-trick with a beautiful header off of the service in by
Savannah Garn in the 62nd minute of play.
Amanda Bennett then notched a brace when she added her second goal in the 84th minute with an unassisted beauty into the lower corner of the Flames net. Rounding out the scoring on the day junior transfer
Silvia Villegas netted her first career goal for ERAU when she converted a PK after being fouled in the box in the 85thminute.
"It was nice to see the ladies play with an attacking mentality this afternoon, and even better to see them finishing those opportunities", said Eagles Head Coach Todd Poitras following the game. He added, "Getting an opportunity to come play at home again before we hit the road these next couple of weeks was great, and now we will focus in on finishing the CalPac season with a purpose. We have some tough contests ahead, and it certainly is rewarding to take some confidence with us as we head into those games." On the day, Embry-Riddle outshot BUC 27-1, including an 18-1 SOG spread.
Embry-Riddle will be on the road next weekend, as they head to northern California for a pair of Cal Pac conference clashes. On Friday, the Eagles will be in Atherton, CA as they look to avenge their loss to Menlo College, with kick-off against the Oaks slated for 12:30 PM. Then on Sunday, the Eagles will travel to the campus of UC Merced, as they will take on the Bobcats for a 1:00PM match. If you are in the area, or just want to enjoy beautiful northern California this weekend, come on out and support ERAU Women's Soccer in their quest to defend their Cal Pac Championship. GO EAGLES!
