The Embry-Riddle Men's Soccer team convincingly defeated the California Maritime Academy Keelhaulers 9-0 today in Cal Pac Conference play. The Eagles scored early and often with
Chase Rinehart scoring the first of three goals in the 3rd minute of play. Rhinehart collected the ball and was afforded enough room to get a bending shot into the lower right corner past an outstretched Brian Edmiston. Rhinehart struck again in the 16th minute off of an assist from
Ryan Holt to make it 2-0. The Keelsman had no answer for the Eagles who continued the onslaught with back to back goals from
Tristan Korras, who was on his way to the Eagles second hat trick of the day. Team goal scoring leader
Isaac Sanchez added a goal to make it 5-0. Senior captain
Fabio Pena single handedly danced through the Cal Maritime defense and finished his goal past Edmiston who could do nothing on the play. With the Eagles now up 6-0, Chase Rhinehart capped off his hat trick in the 35th minute off of a great pass by Nick Goldstein to put the Eagles up 7-0 and that is how the half ended.
The score could have easily been more but Keelhaulers goalie Edmiston did the best he could making some great saves against the Eagles offense. The Eagles added two more goals in the second half as
Tristan Korras finished his hat trick in the 53rd minute with a near post blast. Freshman Parker Duncan ended the Eagles scoring with his first collegiate goal at the 74th minute mark to put the eagles up 9-0. The Keelhaulers did manage some offensive attempts that were thwarted by defenders
Ryan Holt and
Nick Uzunyan. Eagles goalkeepers
Damian Klymko and
Alex Elden each combined with a half of shutout play. The Eagles outshot Cal Maritime 31-3.
Eagles coach Adam Pearce said "this was a good game, congratulations to Parker Duncan with his first college goal". Pearce also added that "we had good passing sequences in the game, we worked for the goals". Embry-Riddle is next in action against Simpson University and Marymount California University this upcoming weekend.
