Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – After winning a big game in any sport, there is a vulnerability to a poor performance the next game. For the ERAU men's soccer team, there was no doubt that they would keep the momentum rolling following Friday night's victory.
Seven different Eagles players scored during Embry-Riddle's 7-0 win over Saint Katherine on Sunday afternoon. The win clinched the Southwest division for the Eagles, plus a berth into the Cal Pac tournament.
The Eagles did not spend much time getting acquainted to the afternoon's action, scoring 5:13 into the contest. Exactly five minutes later, ERAU doubled its lead thanks to Friday night's hero Ethan Carlson.
David Ramos hit an excellent strike into the top left corner to give ERAU a 3-0 lead, his first of the season. It was the quick start the Eagles were looking for, and the team knew they wanted to put the game away early.
"Today, we knew we had to start strong and score as soon as possible," Ramos said. "We didn't want the other team to have hope and then we wanted to close out the game."
Embry-Riddle scored four goals in the second half, all coming in a span of 11:37. Chiedu Ikeme was the team's top performer, dishing out four assists and scoring a goal himself.
Sunday's game was the home finale of the regular season, but the Eagles still have a pair of games left. While those contests next weekend do not count toward conference, and the team has the Southwest division wrapped up, it is still an important test for the postseason-bout squad.
"Just like we have from day one, we want to win those two, and if we can finish the season 14-2-1, that would be huge," head coach Dan Balaguero said.
The final two games will be in the state of California when the Eagles face Antelope Valley and La Sierra. There is still an opportunity to get the top seed in the Cal Pac tournament with a sweep in SoCal.
